The Carrie Brazer Center for Autism offers you the opportunity to realize the incredible difference you can make in the lives of autistic children and their families. Seeking candidates who are licensed CCC, SLP’s, CFY’s and SLPA’s, PT's & PTA's, OT's & COTA's for full time and part-time positions.
We are a year-round private school and summer camp program for children with Autism and other developmental disabilities. Speech Therapists at the Carrie Brazer Center for Autism use a variety of techniques to enable the child to communicate within his or her environment.  Therapists will teach children with little or no speech capability how to make sounds, improve their voices, or increase their language skills to communicate more effectively. They will also conduct lessons and direct educational or therapeutic games to assist teachers dealing with speech problems. These techniques include, but are not limited to using PECS, augmentative communication devices and Sensory Integration techniques such as swinging, brushing, weighted vests, sensory toys and more. We will provide on site training and assistance if needed. Therapists will serve as a resource for teachers in the area of speech and language.
Occupational Therapists at the Carrie Brazer Center for Autism use a variety of techniques to enable the child to communicate and interact within his or her environment.  Therapists will teach children with little or no speech capability how to manage taste, smells and touch sensitivities and increase their fine motor skills. Eye-hand coordination skills will emphasis on dressing and feeding.   Fine motor skills will be addressed by using puzzles, pegboards, attribute-lacing buttons, typing and zipper boards.  Handwriting skills will improve with use of special paper, desk tapes, magnetic and tactile letters, letter groove manipulatives and modified pencil grips, and Handwriting without tears programs. Therapists help children to build texture structures using interlocking blocks, and other manipulatives.  Sensory integration goals are incorporated into each OT session to assist the autistic child to decrease social and emotional problems as well as distractibility. Therapists will work to decrease the child’s over sensitivity to touch, movement, sights or sounds using a variety of techniques: joint compressions, pressure, massage and brushing, swinging, jumping bouncing, rocking, tactile stroking, weighted vests, playing with vibratory manipulative, and more. We will provide on site training and assistance if needed.
Physical Therapists at the Carrie Brazer Center for Autism use a variety of techniques which have an emphasis on gross motor coordination skills such as hopping, skipping, climbing stairs, running, riding bikes, skating, catching and throwing, and swimming. Sensory integration goals are also incorporated into each PT session to assist the autistic child to decrease social and emotional problems as well as distractibility.
All therapists:
  • Will assess students and prepare evaluations
  • Will treat in collaborative classroom settings and individually when necessar
  • Monitor progress and attendance, excellent penmanship required
  • Will attend conferences with parents and teachers as needed
  • Must have knowledge and ability  to adhere to goals and objectives identified on the IEP
  • Goals include increasing receptive and expressive language skills by using a variety of techniques to enable the child to communicate within his/her environment.
  • Generalization skills are taught in the classroom and out in the community on bi-weekly fieldtrips.
  • Must have a general understanding of behavior modification techniques.
Requirements:
  • Prospective candidates will demonstrate excellent clinical skills and be highly motivated to incorporate techniques in and out of a typical classroom setting such as swimming, horseback riding, visits to the zoo, aquariums, and beaches.
  • 3 years experience in evaluating and treating children with Autism or like disabilities. (We will train SLPA's, PTA's, and COTAS.)
  • Sound knowledge of Speech, Occupational or Physical Therapy, psychology and education theory, and child development and health
  • Up-to-date knowledge with the latest developments in the field of autism.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with a diverse group of people and project areas;
  • Ability to select and use effective training/instructional methods and procedures to educate other staff members;
  • Motivated and innovative in the area of continuing education and practice to encourage the professional growth of self and others;
  • Demonstrated ability to train and support staff members;
  • Problem-solving, critical thinking and decision making abilities 
  • Exceptional organizational capabilities and program implementation skills;
  • Strong code of ethics and professionalism.
Competitive Salary:
  • $55-70,000 annual salary for CCC's,  PT's, OTs with 5-10% raises yearly
  • $40-$55,000 annual salary for CFY. COTAs, PTA's, SLPA's with 5-10% raises yearly

Behavioral Therapists

Job Overview:
The Carrie Brazer Center For Autism (CBC) provides therapeutic supports for children, youth and families affected by Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD). CBC is staffed by highly trained professionals who provide Applied Behavioral Analysis (ABA) therapy on an individualized basis with the goal of reducing and eliminating the signs and symptoms of autism in children and youth. We are committed to providing the highest quality of structured behavioral intervention with the goal of reducing future supplementary support.
SALARY: $15-30 per hour
TYPE: Full & Part Time / 10-40 hours   
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Behavior Therapist will successfully asses children who are attending our school full year and new clients with new diagnosis and write a behavioral intervention report and summary.
  • Behavior therapist will be independent and qualified to create a behavioral plan for staff
  • Behavior therapist will test all children pre, mid and post school year and report data.
  • Behavior therapist will implement treatment programs for client with ASD by demonstrating all competencies for a Behavior Therapist.
  • Behavior Therapist will work consistently as part of a team to ensure that the client assigned receives the highest quality therapy and treatment possible.
  • Behavior Therapist may train and demonstrate competencies to other Behavior Therapist, teachers and teacher aids.
  • Behavior Therapist will demonstrate programs to client caregivers and interact with client caregivers daily as part of the client’s behavior therapy program.
INDIVIDUAL SKILLS DELIVERY:
  • Conduct Individual Treatment Plan (ITP) objective programming as written, adapting to frequent program modifications. Includes, but not limited to:
    Preparation for shift and environmental management
    Discrete Trial Instruction
    General Teaching Systematic
    Acceleration Training
    Communication and Professionalism
  • Conduct behavior management and reinforcement programming as written, adapting to frequent program modifications.
  • Communicate with treatment team via written notes (both reading and writing) to ensure proper therapeutic levels are utilized for each program each day.
  • Take responsibility for client’s programming during the assigned schedule.
  • Deliver the assigned schedule of services to the entire caseload as the Behavior Therapist, meeting the required number of hours agreed upon with supervisor.
  • Keep therapy appointments as per schedule developed in conjunction with client and Lead Therapist. Be on time and keep all clinical appointments.
  • Prepare sufficiently in advance by reviewing pertinent data including the client’s Short Term assigned Objectives, Daily Organization Sheets, data for each program, regular clinical meeting notes, and any Lead Therapist’s notes of programming changes to ensure successful completion of each scheduled activity.
  • Provide training, demonstrations, and feedback to fellow Behavior Therapists, intern/practicum students, and client caregivers, as directed by supervisor.
  • Attend scheduled Clinical Review Meetings for each client’s program and all scheduled trainings with the Lead Therapist to remain current with all programming needs and changes.
  • Provide timely input and feedback to supervisors and team members regarding clinical programming, including during each Clinical Review Meeting.
  • Document each on-site session with a progress note entered in the clinical record daily; write brief progress notes (to include objectives addressed per session and any reportable incidents) and verify accuracy. Turn in progress notes with billing record for each date billed, reliably using the billing and time reporting system as directed by the supervisor. Complete all clinical reporting in a timely manner as directed by the Lead Therapist.
  • Assist in the development program materials as requested by the supervisor.
    Maintain confidentiality in accordance with all state and federal guidelines. Complete tasks as assigned by supervisors.
  • Other duties as assigned.
EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
  • Employee must meet one of the following Mental Health Practitioner (MHP) standards:
  • Must have a Master’s degree in behavioral science or a related field.
  • Must be enrolled in a Master’s program in behavioral science or a related field and have 2000 hours of supervised experience working with children under the age of 18 who have severe emotional disturbances.
  • Must have a bachelor’s degree in behavioral science or related field and have 2000 hours of supervised experience working with children under the age of 18 who have severe emotional disturbances.
  • Must have 6000 hours of supervised experience working with children under the age of 18 who have severe emotional disturbances.
  • Employees must pass all state and federally mandated criminal background checks.
  • Employee must meet all qualifications, training guidelines, and application requirements as determined by the Executive Program Director.
  • Employees must be interested in working with children diagnosed with ASD and posses the interpersonal skills to be playful, enthusiastic and bring a high level of energy into the therapy situation. They must be able to develop an effective rapport with client and client caregivers. They must also be assertive while demonstrating behavior therapy in an isolated home environment.
  • Employees must have the ability to read written treatment directions, collect numeric data and summarize the results. In addition, strong writing skills to document treatment sessions are required.
  • Employee must be willing to work well with a team and comply with supervisory direction.

Certified Teachers wanted for children diagnosed with
Autism Spectrum Disorders
The Carrie Brazer Center for Autism is seeking  Certified Special Education Elementary Teachers specializing in Autism (for ages 3 to 12) for the 2009-10 school year for our new elementary campus and Certified Special Education Teachers specializing in Autism for our Middle and High school (for ages 13-22). Both schools are in Miami, Florida.

Certified Special Education Elementary Teacher

The Carrie Brazer Center for Autism’s education program provides a full day, twelve month program for students starting at the age of three. CBC has an early intervention class for young students aged 3-5, and a primary class with students aged 6-12. These classes provide intensive 1:1 behavioral intervention services, pull out therapy and social skills group training.
In addition we have a transition class for young students aged 3-5 years who are being transitioned to mainstream educational placements. These students receive 3:1/6:1 intervention services. 
With a multidisciplinary team of professionals including behavioral, music, speech, occupational and physical therapists and certified special education teachers, The Carrie Brazer Center for Autism provides a wide range of learning opportunities that foster growth in all essential areas. This integrated educational and therapeutic program promotes communicative, behavioral, academic, motor, adaptive, independent living skills and social and emotional development.
The curriculum is highly individualized, hands on, and designed to address the specific needs of each student. Class sizes are small with high teacher to student ratio. Each classroom will have a maximum of 6:1 student to teacher ratio (up to 15 children per class). Each Teacher will have 1-2 highly trained aides with extensive experience. The program is based on the current research and best practices in the field. Teaching strategies and reinforcement methodologies are reviewed on an ongoing basis to maximize each student’s success.
Certified Middle School/High School Teacher for children diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorders
Our Bird Road campus serves students with moderate to severe autism for children in Middle School and High School through the age of 22. The program integrates an academic curriculum with hands on life skills training and comprehensive vocational services that will provide students with a smooth transition into the adult working world. Students begin their vocational training in the early grades, and as young adults, they may become independent workers in real job sites. The students operate their own store. They also prepare and sell food items, gift baskets and other items to the staff and other students as well as out in the community. They perform office work, postal service, and custodial jobs throughout the school. Students learn to work independently. Teacher must have 3-5 years experience working with older children/younger adults with Autism or other developmental delays.
Requirements:
  • Bachelors or Master’s Degree required.
  • Candidate must provide excellent letters of reference and transcripts.
  • Florida Certified in Special Education recommended, however exceptions will be made for candidates who have degrees in other areas of education with experience in Children with Autism Spectrum Disorders.
  • Candidate may be in the process of becoming Florida State Certified, if certified in other states or who have a 2 year letter of eligibility to teach in the state of Florida.
  • Elementary school teacher must have 2 years experience minimum working with younger children/younger adults with Autism or other developmental delays. Salary range 28,000-38,000.
  • Middle school teachermust have 3-5 years experience working with older children/younger adults with Autism or other developmental delays.

Summer Camp Counselors, full & part time Teacher Aides 

The Carrie Brazer Center for Autism is also seeking full and part-time camp counselors, teachers and teachers aides, Behavior, physical, occupational, and speech therapists our 2009 school year.
Prospective candidates will demonstrate patience and compassion with children with moderate to severe autism and other developmental delays.  Qualified applicants who are highly motivated individuals can be trained to work with children with Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD). We only ask that you use energy, excitement and enthusiasm to engage the children and inspire a continuous love of learning and interaction on a daily basis.  Candidate must be prepared to be active, work outside in the sun and participate in weekly outings that include: swimming in the pools, sailing, bowling, swimming at the beach, skating and more.  
Experience with children diagnosed with autism spectrum disorders preferred.
