center to unveil new site The Carrie Brazer Center for Autism & Alternative Approaches, a nonprofit learning center for children and families afflicted by autism, will hold an open house from 7:30 to 10 p.m. Saturday to celebrate the opening of its center at 4944 Le Jeune Rd. The center's activities and teaching techniques revolve around the applications of Dr. Ivar Lovaas, the Picture Exchange Communication System, Literature based teaching techniques, cognitive training and educational therapy as well as music, speech and occupational therapy. The teaching staff at the center provides instruction in mathematics, reading, writing, arts and crafts as well as training in the eye-hand coordination, gross and fine motor skills, sensory integration, music integration and computer technology instruction. The center also offers Saturday sessions and a summer camp program, which consists of five weeklong sessions. In addition to instruction, the summer camp offers fun field trips such as swimming with the dolphins, sailing, swimming at Venetian Pool, horseback riding and visiting area parks.
